… acting collaboratively and resolving disputes positively
Solutions achieved in a collaborative manner not only have a better
chance for successful implementation, they also generate improved
communication and working relationships among the parties involved,
thereby strengthening the organization or community.
A form of alternative dispute resolution, mediation is a structured,
but informal process. It employs the services of a specially trained
and impartial mediator to open channels of communication between
parties to help them understand, define and resolve their conflict.
Compared with litigation, mediation is faster and less costly. Parties
can usually resolve even the most difficult cases to the satisfaction
of all, without the time, expense, emotional toll and after-effects
exacted by litigation, disciplinary actions and other conventional
forms of dispute resolution.
